Gasoline Usage

The US uses more gasoline than the next 20 countries combined.

Interesting.
Japan has roughly 40% of the US population and they are a First World Country. Yet their gas consumption is that low?

Theres more to this story that the superficial details reveal Id bet.

I believe it is because the Japanese drive less than Americans and have smaller cars.

Around 1/2 of the population lives in greater Tokyo, and the public transportation is very good (and driving slow and expensive).

I also wonder if this graph excludes diesel, and whether other countries use more diesel than gasoline.
